It is extremely gratifying to note that the ICMR has been awarding the STS for Medical & Dental Students of the country since a long time. I compliment the ICMR for this wonderful initiative, which helps in motivating at least some Medical Students to look at Research for a career. While I was the Dean of Kasturba Medical College between 2003- 2008, we could motivate a large number of students so much so that KMC got the highest number of STS for 3 consecutive years. I am proud of it. The Moving Academy of Medicine and Biomedicine even granted KMC the opportunity to conduct the MEDICON in 2010 which was a clear testimony to the appreciation that KMC Students got. I feel other organizations like ICAR also should encourage Student Research by offering such Studentships.
